Introduction
First discovered in 1968, the World Federation of neurologists define it as a condition where the affected individual experiences a definitive inability to learn through reading. It is mostly associated with visual problems however as neurologists identify it, it is considered to be a problem in the manner which the brain processes graphic symbols (Brazier, 2017). This therefore means that the condition is a neurological condition.
Individuals who have dyslexia therefore have issues in learning to read and write. Patients are described to have difficulty in spelling as well as decoding the words. The earlier the diagnosis on the condition is made the better the individuals chances are on reducing the impact of the condition. As described by the University of Michigan Health System over 80 percent of learning disabilities are as a result from dyslexia (Visclosky & Laula, 2013). Contrary to the opinion that dyslexic patients are dumb or not brilliant, there’s proof to show that individuals known to have the condition are intelligent.
Symptoms of the condition.
Some of the signs to look out for in order to correctly diagnose may include the following
* Difficulty to read compared to children of the same age
* Delayed speech development in patient
* Left and right confusion
