Health is a critical area that requires effective communication in order to understand and comprehend medical issues, and to make a cognitive judgment of the health problem. Therefore, through observing the two theories, that is the behavioral prediction and the media priming theory, a medical practitioner is capable of deriving various medical conclusions. Fishbein and Yzer (2003) discuss the role of the theories (behavioral prediction and media priming) in assisting practitioners to understand medical variables. Primarily, they help doctors in dispensing suitable actions for particular target groups. In addition, they consider the five interacting dimensions in medication adherence, that is the health factor, social factor, therapy factor, and patients’ behavior. Medication adherence is focused on helping patients understand their condition and their need for medical attention (American College of Preventive Medicine, 2011).
Moreover to understand the medical issue the attitude and behavioral change must be communicated effectively. The medical practitioner must consider all aspects of their target group and comprehend both positive and negative outcomes where possible. It is possible through acknowledging the two theories; behavioral that assists in communicating the patients’ behavior and intention, and media priming that communicate patients’ attitudes and intentions.
Through a closer understanding of the five dimensions of adherence, a practitioner can connect the theories in accordance with the factors to provide quality doctor-patient relationship. For instance, the behavioral prediction can be focused on communicating the social and economic factors as well as the patient-related issues. Besides, the health system factors and therapy related factors can be aligned with the media priming theory to communicate their health status effectively (American College of Preventive Medicine, 2011).
