From the Walden’s library, two research articles were identified as follows: First a qualitative research and then seconded by a quantitative research.
Article one critique
A qualitative research: promoting best care services in childhood asthma, Quality improvement.
This article is a qualitative research which seeks to glean information about the quality improvement of services in treatment of childhood asthma. As denoted by Krefting (2008). , a qualitative research obtains descriptive information about a certain phenomenon.
Literature review was conducted with previous studies concerning the same being analyzed. It was identified that 25% to 40% of tactics normally applied in treatment of childhood asthma are wrong (Lob et al., 2011). Conceptual understanding of this area of study was analyzed to satisfaction.
The design of the study involved 60 participants all of whom were little children, who had developed the condition. The study involved applying different techniques in treatment of the children. From these groups, essential data was collected. A good description of the condition and terms of treatment was considered. No major statistical information was collected (Lob et al., 2011).
Essential data collected was comped together and analysis was done appropriately. From the analysis, it was identified that a better method of treatment can be enhanced. Better mechanisms can be adopted in improving quality of medication of asthma in children. From the study, hypothesis indicated above were supported.
Article 2 Critique
A quantitative research: Effect of corporate fitness program on absenteeism and health care cost
In thus research, the problem that is being studied is the huge accrual of amounts of health care costs as a result of fitness problems. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a fitness program on health care costs and absenteeism in job places (Baun et al., 2009)
To carry out this study, more theoretical information was conducted. Absence of a fitness program among the health workers is a major contributor to health conditions and eventually leading to absenteeism in job places. Theoretical analysis provided information that fitness exercises are important in a human being by strengthening of the bone.
The respondents whom were to be interviewed were 75. All of the respondents were nurses working in different health organizations. Protection of the respondents participating in the study was enhanced by declaration in the consent form indicating that the any injury caused as result of the program will be compensated accordingly. Two groups were involved in the study with the experimental group undergoing the study while the control group was used as reference.
Collection of the data was done in a good way. The health care cost and number of days absent in job were used as the parameters. Data analysis was done by tabulation of percentages, mean and mode of the different groups. From the data tabulations, interpretation was done vividly on cost of health care and number of days absent. Discussion of the result was done in accordance to the findings and it was found out that a physical fitness program reduces health costs and absenteeism rate (Baun et al., 2009).
The study had its own limitation since the ransom size of the population was taken at a satisfaction level. The study was very important in giving out information about the importance of having a corporate fitness program as identified from the statistics provided.
Analysis
Similarities
The two study articles have some similarities as follows; first, the two study articles seeks to obtain information which will be of great importance. Secondly, the two articles follows the same procedures, that is problem statement followed b theoretical framework and then methodology. Data findings, discussion and interpretation are also evident on both studies.
Differences
From the critique of the two articles, it is clear that, though both studies obtain cognitive information, they have different styles. The main reason for these discrepancy is due to the fact that the motive of the two research articles is different. First, as denoted from the two articles above, a quantitative research tries to solve a problem while a qualitative research seeks to gain much information about a certain scenario or phenomenon. The second difference is exhibited in the methodology of the research. While a quantitative research has to consider a random variable in the study, a qualitative research is not necessitated to have a random distribution. In quantitative research, experimental group ...
