The presence of excessive daytime sleepiness when traveling in a car for less than thirty minutes or while reading a book among school-going children raises the suspicion of pathological daytime sleepiness. Pathological sleepiness may be the result of sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea that is commonly undiagnosed in children. Sleep is important for a child's health and wellbeing. Children need sleep to facilitate healthy development. It is often the case that untreated sleep disturbances cause changes in behavioral patterns that often negatively affect relationships.
