Introduction
Nursing scholars and psychologists have, for a long time, endeavored to label ‘intuition.’ However, this word lacks a single, consolidated meaning (Smith, 2009). The term is often related to the expressions such as sensing, immediate and unconscious. Sometimes it is associated with magic knowing, or simply having a sixth sense. But the nursing theories establish that intuition is not just a premonition. The objective of this study is to assess the role of intuition, to evaluate nurses’ opinions on the use of intuition, and to examine the effect of intuition on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP).
Discussion and Analysis
Nurses, according to some researchers, have integrated intuition into the nursing discipline for decades but scientists have greatly ignored the concept. Radin & Schlitz (2005) posit that nurses should preferably base medical decisions on the results of clinical tests and laboratory experiments. However, owing to the indefinite nature of nursing and medicine, that is not always a sensible prospect in practice. Intution has enhanced patient outcomes and removed avoidable and sometimes destructive interferences. Nurses encounter random crises, cases of inadequate information, eccentricities among patients, and vague diagnoses causing them to apply intuition in their judgments (Radin & Schlitz, 2005).
