Workforce Challenges in Health Informatics in Saudi Arabia
Abstract
This paper covers the specific challenges that the workforce in Saudi Arabia faces in health care informatics. Although great progress has been accomplished in the field of health care informatics worldwide in recent years, critical challenges are still experienced in Saudi Arabia. These challenges specifically faced in this country comprise of privacy and confidentiality challenges, the undefined role of health care informaticians, few health care informaticians in the country, lack of qualified health care informaticians, bureaucracy in the country and high population increase rate. Other problems also include challenges with coded medical data, organizational challenges, and difficulties in integration of patients’ records. Two tables have been included in this paper that highlight the technical and human challenges that are encountered in the implementation of health information systems in the country to provide clearer insight into this topic.
