Therefore, the entire organization need to be keen about management and leadership in order to spearhead the organization towards achieving the best (Daft, 2014). Leaders can make decision about five styles to use in decision making by use of different methods. Leaders have to involve themselves in accurate decision making approaches in order to stimulate the capability to achieve the best. Leaders have to weigh the costs and benefits of implementing a particular policy before coming into a conclusion. In order to focus and achieve the best in the long-term, there is need for leader to evaluate the effectiveness of certain policies by measuring outcomes such as organizational output.
Decision Styles To Use?
A leader decides the five decisions styles to use by reading the work environment. The leader has to understand the personalities of employees and work towards creating a satisfactory environment. Through understanding the leadership personalities, it becomes easy to understand on what to do or not (Daft, 2014). Moreover, with sufficient information about work environment, it becomes easy to understand the challenges which could be faced in the process of working towards organizational goals. Through rational thinking, a leader can also make the leader to identify the best working strategy. For instance, leader can make choices about the best working method which can yield the best in an organization (Onley & Onley, 2019). However, this can be achieved through proper analysis of the organization structure and roles and responsibility of all individuals.
In order to make the right choice on the type of leadership style to use, the leader must remain open minded. Through being open minded, it becomes easy to understand how to create balance within the organization. In order to determine the effective type of leadership style there is need to remain transparent, understand the roles and authority of leaders and work towards achieving expectations. Through such strategies, it becomes easy to acquire the goals and objectives within the organization. Leaders should also understand their roles and responsibilities to the people in order to make the right and correct decisions.
Explain the Five Styles and Give an Example of When It Would Be Best For the Leader to Use Each Style
* Autocratic Or Authoritarian Leadership
Under this type of leadership, the leader has absolute control over different activities taking place at the workplace. The entire workforce which consists of team members has to comply with the rules and regulations set by autocratic leaders. The major advantage with such type of leadership style is that there is an essence of saving time as team members fully understand what they are expected to do hence work towards it (Kramer, 2020).
Moreover, with autocratic leadership styles, team members understand what is good or bad hence work towards it. Autocratic leadership style can be effective in a work environment where there is too much pressure. Such work environments include the military environment. This is an environment whereby there is need for high levels of activity in order to acquire certain objectives.
* Laissez-Faire Leadership Style
This type of leadership style is highly characterized by high levels of flexibility. Through laissez-faire leadership style, there is lack of a clear role within the leadership positions. The decisions made within the organization are left open the leader or manager. Team members play an influential role towards ensuring that every individual feels responsible towards achieving the best. In cases whereby team members are highly specialized and skilled, the lazier-faire type of leadership style is likely going to boost the working environment (Kramer, 2020). Laissez-faire type of leadership can effectively work in an active environment such as manufacturing. Such type of environment requires proper activity within members.
* Transactional Leadership Style
Transactional leadership style is majorly based on the foundations of specifying particular expectations, going through negotiation processes for instance those involving contracts, being aware of certain responsibilities and roles more so between the manager and followers. Transactional type of leadership is majorly based on motivation (Daft, 2014). Under transactional leadership, employees are assured rewards after achieving particular goals and objectives.
Such type of leadership enhances the commitment of leaders and employees towards achieving the best (Hussain et al., 2017). Take an example of Service Company. Transactional leadership emerges when employees are assured particular rewards whenever given goals are achieved. This can be gauged on the number of tasks which can be handled by an employee. In such a case, the rewards motivate employees towards achieving the best in the long-term.
* Transformative Leadership Style
Transformative leadership is one of the focused type of leadership which majorly focuses on achieving transition within the organization. This type of leadership majorly aims at establishing a ground whereby an environment aimed at achieving positivity. For instance transformative leaders usually train and guide employees to work towards achieving the vision of the organization (Kramer, 2020). A healthcare environment requires transformative leaders as they majorly aim at achieving success. The environment requires such type of leaders simply because they aim at shaping the organization and ensuring organizational performance. Some of the benefits of such type of leadership include:-
