Introduction: Concept Definition- Employee of Choice
As the labor market becomes increasingly competitive in terms of the need to attract and retain the best talent, organizations are finding it necessary to create a workplace environment and culture that meet employee needs and expectations. The ultimate objective is to become employers of choice by offering a work environment that inspires employee motivation and loyalty. For instance, promising fair wage compensation, generous bonuses and career growth opportunities can help organizations to attract the most skilled and talented workers. The concept of “employer of choice,” in this regard, refers to the reputation that an organization develops as an employer that provides employees with attractive employment terms and a work environment where they can thrive and achieve their full potential (Cook, 2008). Becoming an employer of choice can be understood through the lens of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs by evaluating how well the organization meets employees’ needs at various stages of their career. Accordingly, an organization gains employer of choice status when it is able to identify and satisfy the needs of its workers, as well as create a workplace environment that not only attracts skilled labor, but also inspires current employees to be loyal and committed to the organization.
