The proliferation of competing brands and businesses have rendered the world's business environment very complex and challenging, and the hospitality industry is no exception (Kusluvan et al., 2010). Historically, the industry has undergone numerous changes which have seen the growth of several sectors, including restaurants, coffee houses, bars, and budget hotels. The continuous increase in budget hotels sector has led to the rapid expansion of international hotel brands such as Hilton hotel. The commercial growth of the organizations depends on the quality of its human resource, which includes, catering managers, wait staff, chefs, cooks, security officers, bar staff, among others. HRM is the practice of recruitment and managing of employees in an organization. It highlights the cultures that incorporate a great workplace, including the corporate social environment. The current department of human resource operates differently from that of decades ago. The scenario can be attributed to the fluctuating job market, regulatory demands and issues about compliance that compel human resource (HR) managers to participate in the strategic development of businesses. Business owners must, therefore, analyze contemporary issues facing HRM, to understand how to utilize the valuable workforce (human resource) for the betterment of business and society. This essay highlights the current concerns about HRM in the hospitality industry.
