Policymaking involves the creation of new setting standards and laws for the systematic organization. The development and implementation of policy provide a centralized and standardized process under which a proposed policy may be developed, initiated, approved, reviewed, disseminated and implemented following the criminal justice system standards. The American public is accustomed to seeing officials within the criminal justice system such as prosecutors, legislators, defence attorneys, judges, and correction officials - all getting together in decision making that shapes policies on criminal justice and oversees the implementation process. However, in reality, this process is more complicated than simply a few officials and politicians sitting around a table to discuss what might be the best way forwards for the entire criminal justice system. The process involves many important components and steps before decisions and options become the official policies. This report aims to identify the components of policy development and implementation and determine the role of all the major stakeholders in policymaking and policy development.
