Name: Lecturer: Course Code: Date of submission: Why Abortion should not be legalized Abortion is a topic that has brought mixed reactions around the world. However, there is need to realize the negative effects of abortion to the mother society and the nation at large. The society takes abortion as an immoral practice which should not be allowed. If abortion is legalized then it would mean the unborn baby is denied the chance of existence yet every child is considered relevant no matter what form they are in. I will therefore be arguing against abortions because it is tantamount to murder, considered sin before God and at the same time posing great health hazards to the mother. One fact that needs to be considered is that life begins at conception and therefore the fetus has a right to live in accordance with Human Rights laws. Bailey (56) believes that every life is considered sacred and no one has the mandate to terminate it. Since murder is punishable by law, this should also be applied to women who abort. In the same way a woman's life is also in danger since they can also die if the abortion procedure does not succeed. If abortion is legalized then it would mean the lives of so many children would be at risk since abortion would be done with reckless abandon. Doing an abortion therefore is similar to committing murder and anyone partaking it should be held accountable. Religious leaders have always been clear on this disturbing issue of abortion. Religion considers abortion as sin since it means taking away a God given life. Basically life is considered sacred and only God has the power to take life (Van der Ven and Ziebertz 140). It is important to realize that the holy books like the Bible and the Quran talk against murder and warns of punishment from God himself. Supporting legalization of abortion will only do more harm than good since it would mean the mother will be living with the guilt of committing sin against God. It is important to note that the health complications from abortion aftermath are very severe. Physical damages on the woman's body can lead to perforated uterus, damaging of the cervix, prone to reproductive organs infections and Hemorrhage from excessive bleeding. According to Bailey (89), emotional trauma is inevitable for women who have done abortion which can lead to depression.
