The Implication of Domestic Violence on Families
INTRODUCTION
Domestic violence is the deliberate infliction of physical or psychological pain to an individual of close relationships within a family in order to exact authority or cause harm to them. Domestic violence has been attributed in the growing cases of homicides, depression and divorce which have consequently altered the social fabric in many communities and encouraged the sprouting of single families. Domestic violence has been illustrated in films, books and short stories as a pervasive act that is detrimental to the lives of females and children who witness and grow in these violent families. In contemporary lives, celebrities have been identified as domestic abusers or victims, which apparently mean that domestic violence is not the holoi polloi but is rather rampant in the majority of a family exhibiting the cause-factors of domestic violence (Flury et al). It is therefore clear that the concept of the family acting as a sanctuary to its members does not correlate in a world where the incidence and prevalence of domestic violence are condoned by the arms of the law and societal principles of patriarchy.
Domestic violence in families can be perpetrated against wives, mistresses, children, or close relatives. These acts of violence can occur in the form of rape, compelled abortions, incest, stalking, and battering (Alejo 85). The concept of domestic violence under longitudinal studies has been identified as historical and currently growing through media incentives and the pervasive radical feminist campaigns that have bolstered the growing differences between the genders. It has been imperative to study and factor ways of curtailing domestic violence rates in families. Some of the root courses of these cases can be attributed to child growth, employment, role performing, loss of control and drug abuse.
