Research Proposal on Green Supply Chain Management: Potential Opportunities for Unilever in the United Kingdom and Emerging Markets
Introduction
The term green is used in the corporate world to allude to a firm's environmental impact due to its economic exploits. Accordingly, Fahimnia, Sarkis, and Davarzani (2015) define green supply chain management (GSCM) as an innovative business activity inspired by the need to design a product procurement and distribution system that is sensitive to ecological destruction. In this case, organizational policy-makers device new practices aimed at reducing waste in the form of carbon and preserving the natural environment. Mangla, Kumar, and Barua (2014) posit that globalization and changing consumer behaviors are some of the factors contributing to the implementation of GSCM by organizations. Emerging markets overseas, especially in the developing and low-cost countries necessitate the development of extended supply chains to cover these regions. However, the accompanying activities may have a negative ecological impact (Fahimnia et al. 2015). Likewise, a new generation of consumers who are aware of the impacts of carbon footprint is increasingly demanding for high standard goods and services. The green concept has resulted in greater awareness of resource management and responsible manufacturing to enhance environmental sustainability.
