Sentinel City Bus Tour Demographics
After taking a virtual bus tour in Sentinel city, I found out Sentinel City is made up of four towns; Acer Tech Centre, Industrial Park, Nightingale Square, and Casper Park District. This project focuses on Sentinel City demographics and health parameters affecting its residents. The bus tour navigation offers an in-depth view of the Sentinel city demographics such as age, income level, education, level, population, gender among others. Generally, Sentinel city has a population of 663, 862 people and a cumulative median household income of $49,091. In sentinel city, children with 14 years and below comprise of 22.41%, which rates 3% higher than that of women population. In addition, Population group between 15 and 24 years comprises of females, who are 145 people more than males. Specifically, people age bracket between 14 years and 54 years forms the largest population, which accounts to 47.21% of the total population (Moore, 2019). This population (47.21%) is composed of 5% more females than males. Furthermore, those aged between 55 and 64 years comprises of 8.4% of the total population; the females are 376 more. The 65-years plus population comprises of 5.9%, whereby females are more by 6% compared to males. Altogether, the Caucasians form the highest ethnicity comprising of 52.7%, American Indians form 2%, Asians, 3.76%, African Americans form 10. %, and Hispanics consists of 31.5% (Chircop & Cobbett, 2020). Ultimately, the Industrial Heights is the poorest with the worst infrastructure, health structures and with the most re-occurring street crime. Also, Islamic is the largest percentage forming 78.8%, Christians comprise 8.8%, the minority group forms 4.7%, and Buddhist consists of 7.8%. Generally, a percentage of 18.9% in Sentinel city comprises of people living below the poverty line; whereby Industrial Heights leads in poverty percentage of 52%.
Travelling through the Sentinel city, there are a lot of environmental hazards. For instance, there are a lot of trash piles along the streets. For example, there were running rats through the trash piles in city areas, and stray dogs hoovering around. Around the city parks, there are trash piles alongside churches, and schools. Nevertheless, Industrial Park is the cleanest, which has graffiti on many buildings’ walls. Also, a burning car and metal barrels were spotted burning throughout some city spots. Lastly, there were some smokestacks and white air participles appearing as mist in the air around Nightingale areas.
General Poverty Level: The overall median income in Sentinel city is around $49,091. On the other hand, Industrial Heights has the lowest median income $24,672, and Nightingale forms the leading with $269,550. In addition, Casper Park District has a median household income ranks at $80, 134, whereas Acer Tech Community is $166,300 (Moore, 2019). Actually, 18.98% of the total Sentinel City population live below the poverty line. In healthcare statistics, the number of non-insured population in Casper Park District is 22.72%, 1.5% in Acer Tech, 37.5% in Industrial Heights, and 0.7% in Nightingale Square (Moore, 2019). There are several potholes in Sentinel city, with a number road dents filled stagnant waters. The stagnant water exposes people to malaria since they act as breeding sites for mosquitoes. Also, stagnant water exposes children, the elderly and the alcoholics to waterborne diseases (Chircop & Cobbett, 2020). Perhaps, the road dents and potholes may cause road accidents that risks the community lives. In addition, there are many vacant apartments with signs on them, which indicates that most of the people in relatively poor areas such as Industrial Heights cannot afford them.
Children’s Poor Health in Sentinel City
According to hospitals’ articles that I stopped to check on, statistical data indicates that immunization was very paramount in all Sentinel city health centers. Singularly, the polio vaccination through oral administering was provided to 91% of Sentinel city health centers. Unfortunately, 20% of children die each year from measles; this culminates from increased healthcare access gap in Industrial Heights compared to other towns (Chircop & Cobbett, 2020). In fact, depression and depression are the major causes of adult deaths in Industrial Heights. This results to decreased attention towards children welfare, which exposes them to lack of basic and critical medical treatment and care (Cooke, 2017). Statistically, poverty in Industrial heights is linked to poverty level that subjects most of residents to alcoholism and substance abuse. Eventually, depression causes despair then suicide; which leads to high number of orphans who are forced into street crimes for survival. Thus, dependency ratio increases resulting to children negligence compounding to high mortality rate in Industrial Heights (Kroll et al. 2016). Cancer, tuberculosis, and alcoholism are the major causes of deaths in Industrial Heights compared to the other Sentinel city regions due to high rate of environmental pollution.
On the other hand, lifestyle changes have led to deterioration of children’s’ health due to exposure to infections from the polluted environment therein. For example, cancer is very common in high-end residential areas such as Nightingale Square because the consumption of food with high percentage of cholesterol. Moreover, obesity, malnutrition, and obesity are the major health issues affecting all children in Sentinel city (Narisetty et al. 2019). To sum, economic, social, and environmental drawbacks are the major causes of health matters inequalities in Sentinel city.
PICO QUESTION: Is increasing employment rate more helpful in combating diseases and infections in children than increasing infrastructural development to reduce the mortality rate in Sentinel city?
From the virtual bus tour observations, the health records in Sentinel city indicate that cramping of the abdomen, flushing, asthma, measles, diarrhea, wheezing and cholera are the major health diseases among the children and adolescents (Friedman et al. 2020). Furthermore, cardiovascular diseases like angioedema and hypotension affect children from low altitude areas such as Nightingale Square. In fact, articles and magazines in one of the health centers I passed by indicate that infants, adolescents and under 18s are the main victims of angioedema coupled with other infectious diseases. Poverty makes it difficult for children in most of Industrial Heights’ homes to lack access tom balance diet that results to malnutrition and low/weak immune system. Eventually, angioedema and malnutrition diseases became common treated cases in healthcare centers (Cooke, 2017). Specifically, children from Asians and black American communities were the most victims of malnutrition diseases in Industrial Heights, which calls for employment opportunities as the primary intervention. Also, statistically, children from wealth and rich families suffered from obesity, and cardiovascular diseases culminating from high intake of junk foods, and lack of physical exercise.
