Professional ethics is a set of agreed and adopted principles that govern the activities of professionals and their respective institutions. It outlines clearly the code of conduct, expectations and repercussions for failure in adhering to its provisions by both the practitioner and the relevant profession. Such principles and objectives are developed and adopted to ensure professionalism and quality in service delivery in respective professions.
Nursing as a profession has its set of principles, philosophy and objectives which thus constitutes The Nursing Ethics. This requires all those practicing nursing to adhere to its provisions (Grace, 2017) .Violations of sections or parts of this code may lead to litigation, disciplinary measures or expulsion from practice. Nurses are therefore bound under this professional obligation in the execution of their activities (Krautscheid, 2017). However, practical situations at work provisions may present compromising and conflicting situation constituting a dilemma to the nurses.
Ethical dilemma refers to a situation in which a difficult choice is to be made between two compromising courses of action either of which conflicts with a moral principle or standing. Nurses, in their daily execution of duties are faced with numerous ethical issues which they need to reconcile with their own set of beliefs, values and aspirations. This bone of contention presents a big challenge to the nurses.
