The research article “Resurgence of Pertussis Infections in Shandong, China: Space-Time Cluster and Trend Analysis” by Zhang, et al (2019) examined the efficacy of vaccination in preventing pertussis, a respiratory disease commonly known as whooping cough. The researchers carried out a longitudinal study of the Shandon region of China, and adopted a spatial and temporal approach to data collection. Although the research design was appropriate for the collection of empirical data to show infection trends over time, the sampling technique compromises the generalization strength of the findings owing to the researchers’ focus on a single region.
