What factors would support codependency among any of the Potts family members? Explain
Codependency can be toxic since individuals sacrifice their needs to attend to their partners. In the Potts family's case, the existing bond does not indicate people who love each other. The violence of Mr. Potts frightens the wife and the children. However, the wife sacrifices her need for happiness and happy life to be with Mr. Pott, taking care of him. In this regard, the factors supporting codependency include poor communication, relationship stress, and dependency.
First, there is poor communication among the Potts family. Mrs. Potts is the caregiver in this case since she has sacrificed her needs to care for the family. Mr. Potts, as the receiver, does not play the role of being a father well since he never spends time with the children. As a result, Mrs. Potts is unaware of her wants to the extent of staying in an abusive marriage. In addition, Mrs. Potts is afraid to express her wants, evidenced by her reluctance to divulge critical information about her husband's behavior. Mrs. Potts feels that caring for her husband and children is essential in the marriage and fears upsetting him. When drunk, Mr. Potts is more interested in controlling his family than communicating correctly to solve the problem.
