Description
Pressure Ulcer Case Study [WLO: 3] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3]
Prior to beginning work on this assignment,
Review Chapters 1, 2, and 3 of Health Informatics: An Interprofessional Approach. Review the article What Informatics Is and Isn’t (Links to an external site.)
Read the Pressure Ulcer case study in your course textbook found at the end of Chapter 3.
Write a three to four-page case study analysis addressing the questions below. If needed, review the Ashford Writing Center’s Writing a Case Study Analysis (Links to an external site.) resource for assistance. In addition to the course textbook, utilize a minimum of two scholarly sources to support your answers.
What are the steps of the practice-based evidence (PBE) process related to this case study? As the health professional or informatics specialist working with the clinical team in the long-term care facilities, identify the following: Elements to incorporate into the documentation that address factors identified in the original study.
Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tools that could be incorporated into computer systems. How can the cost effectiveness of the new documentation requirements and standards of care be efficiently evaluated?

Pressure Ulcer (PrU) Case Study
The practice-based evidence (PBE) strategy applies a high range of data and varied types of patients to ensure a valid sample representing the general patients and incorporates the data's external validity. It applies more than 700 samples that provide a randomized controlled trial in the experiment. It involves an indiscriminate number of subjects that form the assignments sample; the doctor can treat various patients randomly to ensure they handle different conditions during the exercise. It enhances designing the experiment considering different aspects of the population to enhance differentiation between services offered to the experimental and the controlled groups in the analysis. The primary element revolves around mining information and data that form the knowledge discovery and data mining (Nelson &Staggers, 2014). Essentially, nursing informatics allows the clinicians to have a concrete direction and framework for analyzing the large volume of data using different clinical models that promote efficiency in the overall exercise.
Notably, the analyses provide several outcomes that can be applied in understanding the given PBE project. However, every project has different dimensions that allow it to capture different results and incorporate them to understand various clinical aspects. Further, the practice-based evidence in the medical field applies several verified standard measures to enhance the quality of treatment and data captured from the analysis. Some of the standardized measures applied involve the Braden Scale that gauges the risk associated with pressure ulcer (PrU) development (Mastrian & McGonigle, 2019). It constitutes one of the primary conditions where data is collected during practice-based evidence analysis and provides various dependent and independent variables that can control the development of pressure ulcers.
Nelson and Staggers (2014) assert that there are several fundamental steps in PBE, where the initial step involves creating a multidisciplinary team of clinicians. The second step consists of controlling the patient’s severity variations that revolve around the treatment procedures, comorbidities, and treatment efficacy. The third step involves the application of the tremendous collection of data and clarifying their validity. Further, the fourth step revolves around the creation of a case study database on all the collected data. The fifth step constitutes the hypothesis testing to ascertain the outcome of the research question. The last step includes the validation and the implementation of and applying the study findings in their respective cases.
