I. Introduction
The nature of work is changing. The modes by which work is performed, collaboration patterns within and across departments and workplace design – all contribute to an emerging work which departs radically from more conventional modes. In contrast to hierarchical relationships between superiors and subordinates, at a vertical level, and limited workflow channels, if at all, at a horizontal level, more recent work patterns – particularly ones involving flatter management systems and more communication channels up and across different organizational departments and units – are informing how work is performed. For current purposes, workplace re-design is discussed to examine possible implications for productivity and increased collaboration. More specifically, changes introduced to layout design of Transportation Department at Creative Toys Company in current case study are discussed. This paper aims, hence, to examine developments of and implications for layout re-design of Transportation Department at Creative Toys Company, particularly in productivity rates and collaboration patterns.
