1 Beneficial aspects of the Nissan Response
The principles mentioned in Nissan’s emergency response plan are the basis of Nissan’s response towards the earthquake and Tsunami. The Global disaster control headquarters for Nissan headed and supported by chief operating officer to evaluate operational effects as well as to supervise activity reestablishment. A recovery committee was set so as to coordinate the global actions of recovery; the setting up of this committee was particularly to optimize the entire supply chain. The recovery committee took the following measures to coordinate response to disaster by the company:
Information sharing; a unit of integrated processing was developed by Nissan with a goal to innovate idea process and to contribute in the phase of improvising. As identified by the management, information was needed for those units that operate outside Japan but those handling the disaster on the ground might be affected. In addition, other market players may use it to improvise their own shortcomings. In this regard, operating units worldwide were requested to send two staff members to Japan to work as a team so as to utilize their knowledge and skills in a best way.
