Cultural Diversity in Nursing: Case Analysis
The delivery of quality healthcare to the Muslim faith requires one to have a broad understanding of their cultural and spiritual values. Some of the core differences in their treatment include diet, the idea of modesty, restrictions to touching, removal of hijab as well as alcohol intake restrictions. Due to the diversity of religion, there is a high chance that a doctor will likely take care of a Muslim patient. It is a challenge for non-Muslim caregivers to adequately take care of such patients.
What is the diverse cultural background of the patient involved? After searching for information related to this culture, how do these individuals perceive health and illness?
The diverse cultural background for this case is from a Muslim patient who had head surgery and is now recuperating. According to the Muslim culture, one is not supposed to show his head to another man apart from her husband or a similar gender (HPI, 2019). She is not supposed to remove her hijab in front of another man apart from her husband. In this case, Dr. Callahan does not consider the cultural limits and he is seen to be frustrated with the patient. Muslim patients believe that illness and health are a test from God and they see this as a path where one's sins are removed
