FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is a birth deformity induced by alcohol drinking by women while pregnant. This condition is the dominant known cause of avertable birth developmental disabilities and effects. Although it is known by many people that taking alcohol during pregnancy results in the damage of the fetus, women prolong their alcohol intake during pregnancy. The drinking may be due to unplanned pregnancies, incapability to abstain from taking alcohol or the lack of the danger of fetal alcohol syndrome awareness. Some of the disabilities include autism and Down syndrome. Children, adolescents and even adults who live with these kinds of disabilities connected with the exposure of prenatal alcohol consumption, encounter extraordinary difficulties throughout their lives. This study examines the effects of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
The impact of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
The effects of alcohol concerning developmental deformities have been well demonstrated. The exposure of alcohol during the prenatal stage can cause severe problems during development including, structural and functional damage to the growing brain, physical deformities, and behavioural and cognitive impairments.
Physical Problems
The physical challenges connected with FAS reveal early and are the most effortless to identify. They include fetal demise, low weight before and after birth, prematurity and sudden infant death syndrome. CNS abnormities such as reduced brain size, microcephaly and corpus malformations. Congenital heart defects like the outflow tract malformations for example when the great arteries transposition. (Nash et al., 2017). Children with FAS also show other growth deficits like facial abnormalities such as flattened philtrum, small eyes, a short upturned nose and palpebral fissures; deformities of limbs, fingers and joints, kidney problems and heart defects, hearing and vision problems.
