Technology has virtually changed how people communicate and interact in modern social settings. From social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp to smartphones, technology has no doubt eased communication across the globe. Nonetheless, prolonged use of technologies has raised various health concerns, such as eye strains, muscle problems, and depression.
Cases of patients suffering from vision problems have been on the rise in modern societal settings. According to a survey conducted by the American Optometric Association (AOA), more than 40% of optometrists’ patients have vision problems because of spending more time on the computer (Klamm & Tarnow, 2015). Particularly, some of the contributing factors to such eye strains include bad lighting, improper viewing position, and screen glare. Moreover, due to an incorrect sitting position, an individual is likely to have muscle problems. However, AOA recommends that one should use a matte screen filter in reducing screen glare (Klamm & Tarnow, 2015). Also, one should dim the computer’s screen if it is brighter than the rest of the room.
