Anti-smoking activists have never ceased their campaign against cigarette smoking in community venues that are open to the public. In existence is two kinds of cigarette smokers, namely passive and active. An individual that smokes in public is also surrounded by those who do not smoke but are subject to involuntarily inhaling it. These people are referred to as passive smokers while the others are active. All these two groups of people are similarly affected and bound to suffer from the hostile results of tobacco smoke. People that do not smoke and those that smoke converges at numerous locations like resorts, workplaces, bus stops, parks and many more. For decades, individuals with the habit of smoking have had a field day doing it unashamedly in most of the places that are open to public. But not anymore, since now the battle put forth by anti-smoking in public places crusaders are rising to make their demands heard. Uncountable number of medical and scientific research findings, studies and surveys have clearly ascertained that cigarette smoking is dangerous to one’s health wellness. According to (Great Britain, 2005), smoke pollutes the surroundings and suffocates the inhabitants. So now, when adverse results of cigarette smoking on a person’s health, atmosphere and all other surroundings including personal privileges and rights to clean air is interfered with, then are good reasons, amongst many to stress the point that smoking must be forbidden in places that are open to the public. It is my viewpoint that any individual who feels the urge to smoke, if free to do so but must as long as it is in isolated places where they do not interfere with non-smokers.Throughout the whole world, Tobacco turns out to be one amongst many considerably used drugs predominantly in the cigarette form. Countless number of people smoke cigarettes daily in spite of the fact that it is toxic and detrimental to their health wellness. In my opinion, smoking cigarettes in public places needs to be completely prohibited for numerous reasons that am going to mention. Smoking cigarettes has very high probabilities of triggering detrimental health and wellness issues to the tobacco users themselves and also to those breathing in second hand emanating from the cigarettes being smoked around them. It has been scientifically confirmed by researchers that cigarette comprises of four thousand different kinds of chemicals; whereby forty-three come out to be cancer-causing. The accumulation and concentration of carbon monoxide in the smoke happens to be over twenty thousand ppm, which is watered down to between four hundred and five hundred when inhaled as (Viscusi, 1992) puts it. This kick out oxygen from haemoglobin, giving rise to the incapacity of the central nervous system, lung illnesses and cardiac complications. All these have high chances of ultimately causing stroke. Apart from these, cigarettes hold other hydrocarbons and ammonia that can lead to lung cancer, respiratory infections and asthma. Cigarettes also hold dust particles that can lead to cancer, emphysema and eyes irritation. Nicotine found in cigarettes is extremely addictive and has the power to get to the brain instantly. It squeezes the veins and can cause hypertension. Later on, it can bring about disorders in the reproduction system. I have personally lost close relatives who were smokers as a result of health complications due to cigarettes. It is outrageous that cigarettes smoking is advertised and hyped to be a cool thing to do in many commercials. Numerous young people are drawn to smoking because of this error. There normally are 'statutory warning' on packets of cigarette, but it does help much. A serious and well-coordinated awareness programme among the youths on the health risk factors due to cigarette smoking need to be undertaken. Many are engaging in this harmful habit due to ignorance and peer pressure. Most of the young people have been deceived to the point that they now have high esteem for smokers, thinking that they are modern and smart. In the recent findings out of research undertaken in USA by Yale University, it was discovered that smoking is extremely risky for youngsters. In the results, it came out clear that individuals who begin smoking early in their life are more prone to some form of disabilities. The individual’s accurateness to comprehend information gradually deteriorates, together with the speediness (Hanson, Venturelli & Fleckenstein, 2006). Scientists and researchers have also found out that cigarette smoking truncate eleven years off a female’s average lifestyle expectancy while in male is three years. In case an expectant female smokes cigarettes, this will not only be dangerous to her health but infant too. Scientific findings acknowledge that the initiative to put up smoking zones is not satisfactory. This kind of system is normally seen in community buildings and other public places. Cigarette smokers are offered a particular section for smoking, but in accordance with some research findings, this still is not safe for non-smokers. The harm hails out of the second-hand smoke. Communal calls to prohibit cigarette smoking in open avenues are becoming stronger. Reasons for barring cigarette smoking in the places that are public are way beyond fears of second-hand smoke. It is because environmental concerns have also appeared, which strengthen the debate and the stand as to why cigarette smoking should be banned in all the places that are public. The feasible protection that those who do not smoke can probably depend ...
