The Concept of Frailty
Frailty is a condition that makes older patients vulnerable to health care challenges. The condition is associated with high levels of exhaustion, slower walking pace, muscle weakness, and extreme weight loss (Wilson, Jackson, Sapey & Lord, 2017). While researchers and clinicians have known about the concept for a long time, a lot of efforts are yet to be applied to make sure that the aging population is protected from these kinds of muscle-strength loss and accompanying complications. Additionally, frailty is often overlooked because of its similarities with other conditions such as sarcopenia (Wilson et al., 2017). Failure to intensively focus on the issue has led to multiple health complications for people above the age of 65 years. The healthcare industry needs consider frailty as a major health complication to reduce death rate of the aging population and ensure that the older people can take care of themselves comfortably.
