Theories for Health Promotion
Stimulus Response Theory
According to stimulus-response theory, a person might end up smoking because of the following. the first component that any individual requires to start smoking is the right environment (Nazir, 2018). The best kind of this environment is having a group of friends who are smokers. One has to meet them constantly so that the perfect environment can be created. The second requirement is the interaction between the individual with cigarettes. For an individual to start smoking the stimulus which is tobacco is sent to the brain which analysis the information and ends up creating the need to smoke. The interaction between the smoke and the individual triggers one to respond to quench the smoke thirst. To quench this thirst the only option is for the individual to start smoking. Continuous smoking ends up becoming part of the individual’s life ending up as a behavior. According to this theory for an individual to start smoking one has to have the right environment, have the presence of the right stimuli, and then a response (Nazir, 2018).
