The American system of health cannot be considered a success as compared to that of Japan majorly because the health system of Japan utilizes laissez-faire practices. Therefore, the discussion below will focus on a short consideration of how the restoration after the Second World War led to Japan's current health status. Also, there will be a discussion of features that resulted in Japan's health status and the lessons the US can study from the Japanese health structure.
The reconstruction of the Japanese health system after the Second World War was pushed forward by Colonel Crawford F. Sams. Sams was involved in the introduction of contemporary approaches to the prevention of diseases (RAND Corporation, n.d.). Also, he commenced an education program that increased the awareness of the public about hygiene and cleanliness. The existence of both the Employee' Health insurance and Community Health insurance plans have primarily contributed to the health status of the Japanese people. On the contrary, a legal feature that has led to the Japanese improved health status was the passing of the law that provided comprehensive coverage to all Japanese citizens (Townsend, 2018).
