What is Grand Strategy and why do We Need it
Grand strategy is a rare term, which rarely makes it to the newsrooms. Grand Strategy is the compilation of policies and plans that concern economic, diplomatic, political and military tools to enhance the interests of states (Feaver, 2009). It involves leaders' perceptions but often undermined by constitution, culture and economic policies.
“Kennan Sweepstakes” has been widely used in the US to demonstrate Grand Strategy after the cold war. Yale pioneered the study of grand strategy amidst arguments against it. The writer is starting a program in Duke to enlighten curious students. Grand strategy helps leaders and civilians in decision-making, setting public policy and economical procedure. There needs to be a revolution on teaching methods of Grand Strategy to question policies like the ones made during Obama's administration.
