Modern CBT began in the 1950s and 1960s when psychiatrists and psychologists working in the United States, England and south Africa began to research psychotherapeutic involvements based on learning theory principles. It was not long before behaviors therapy established as a form of treatment comprised of exposure-based approaches based on operant. Although the method received resistance and critics from the psychotherapists, Cognitive behavioral therapy development advanced over time. A different pioneer contributed to the development of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In the 1950s, Dr Albert Ellis pioneered ABC's development, which is still used in CBT today. Joseph Wolpe and Arnold Lazarus also took part in the development of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In the 1960s, they contributed to the development of behavior therapy techniques meant to reduce neuroses. They founded the systematic desensitization theory that contributed to developing various techniques that are still used in CBT today.
