Introduction
Immunization is one of the contentious subjects that that attracted diverse views from different factions. Although it is the responsibility of the government to promote public health through various measures such as vaccination, its efforts that often been curtailed by other parties such as churches and other groups in the society. Vaccination, according to Herper (2014), is the administration of weak viral or bacterial products to enable the body to be prepared to counter any similar attack in future. Although vaccination has proven to be effective in preventing the spread of some diseases such as polio and small pox, it is success has been played different factions arguing that it comes with diverse risks that can pose health risk to the children (Herper, 2014). Therefore, the aim of making vaccines mandatory is marred with retaliation by people who intentionally refuse to have their children immunized.
The objective of this paper is to provide reasons why the vaccination should be made mandatory.
Pros of child vaccination
Saves lives
One of the primary benefits of vaccination is that it protects children disease. According to the report by Herper (2014), vaccination protecting children from diverse diseases, such as polio, Measels, Smallpox, Tetanus, Rubell and Diphtheria, that would however affect their life in future. The United Nations explained that 2.5 million children are saved from preventable disease through vaccination. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), over a span of 20 years (1994-2014), 322 million children were prevented from diseases in the U.S because of immunization. Across the world, more than 2 million children are saved from death across to world due to immunization. In addition to other measures, immunization has considerable contributed to the reduction in the infant mortality rates across the world. Immunization has played an imperative role towards total elimination of diseases that affected the world back in the 19th century. Therefore, ensuring that all the children in the country are immunized can help to protect children from any diseases in future as well as product their future.
