PROPOSED PROJECT DETAILS

TITLE OF RESEARCH: Community Engagement on curbing Covid 19
Specific Area Focus … Infection prevention and control of spread of covid 19

Proposed project budget: Ksh ( 20,000,000)

1.0 Background to the project (Provide the background information defining the issues that the proposal is seeking to address).
The global community is racing to slow down and eventually halt the spread of COVID-19 and Kenya is not left behind, a pandemic that has claimed thousands of lives and sickened tens of thousands of others. In Africa, the virus has spread to dozens of countries within weeks. Governments and health authorities are all working hard to ensure that the pandemic does not escalate to unmanageable levels considering that Kenya is a developing country and operates on limited resources.
Background Information
197 people in Kenya have tested positive from Covid 19 as at the government of Kenya press conference on Monday 24th May 2020 the infection rates in Kenya was 1,168 which is alarming
The corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has upended the lives of children and their families as health systems buckle, borders close, and schools and businesses shutter.  Since the start of the outbreak, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been supporting African governments with early detection by providing thousands of COVID-19 testing kits to countries, training dozens of health workers and strengthening surveillance in communities. Forty-seven countries in the WHO African region can now test for COVID-19. At the start of the outbreak, only two could do so. While COVID-19 spreads, so as misinformation – fueling discrimination and stigma. UNICEF is working with health experts to promote facts over fear, and bringing trustworthy guidance to parents, caregivers and educators. “We are on the ground in more than 190 countries, collaborating with front-line responders to keep children healthy and learning, protected from sickness and violence, no matter whom they are or where they live.” (WHO)
It is worth noting that the government is putting in place preventive measures and cushioning the public from the impact of the pandemic on the economy by increasing cash allocations to people with severe disability, elderly and needy.
