Nursing Protocol
I was into one and half years of my nursing career and was feeling significantly confident of my knowledge and skills of my career. I worked with patients suffering from chronic illnesses such as cardiac failure, cancer, and obesity. In this case, I worked on a cardiac trauma step-down unit that catered for the patient population that was made up of victims of accidents, chest traumas, cardiac failure as well as a rule out heart attack patients. In most instances, such rule outs would be taken to emergency room upon complaining of chest pains, then receive routine assessment and if indicated would immediately be transferred or admitted to the unit I worked. In my unit, together with other staff, we would monitor the patients as we complete their serial enzymes. In case the enzymes were found to be positive the patients would be advised to stay in the unit for further care. However, if the enzymes tested negative, the patients would be transferred to the general medical-surgical unit. In all these experiences I came to discover that the chest pain rule outs were some of the easiest patients to give care (American Nurses Association, 2016).
